Like Animation VFX too is divided into 3 stages, such as :- Pre-Production, Production and Post-Production.
The PRE - PRODUCTION in known as ‘PRE-Viz’. and completely planning of story ideation, script writing, story boarding, Animation, initial art, character design, BG design and colour key for look development.
The PRODUCTION part of visual effects comprises integration of CG (computer generated) characters, background and effects with live action. CG production consists of 3D modelling, texturing, rigging, animation, lighting, rendering and FX.
Last part of VFX is POST-PRODUCTION and it starts with Rotoscopy. A Roto artist draws around the character in each frame and with the help of an accurate camera tracking, the process of matching live action camera along with CG camera is carried out. The background for the effect is then created and artist prepare the frames or background for the final output. Here matte painting is carried out for replaces the back ground of character by recreating background. Finally, everything is blended together through a process called ‘Compositing’. Where all the Visuals from live action and CG are blended together to achieve the photorealistic output.
